Southampton has rejected Burnley's bid of nine million pounds (equivalent to approximately N9 billion in Nigerian currency) for Super Eagles-eligible winger Nathan Tella, as reported by The Daily Mail UK.
Instead, Burnley has signed Danish winger Jacob Bruun Larsen on a season-long loan from Hoffenheim, leaving uncertainty about whether they will make another bid for Tella.
Tella played a crucial role for Burnley on loan last season, contributing 22 goals and assists combined, which led to the club's promotion back to the Premier League.
His impressive performances even earned him a nomination for the PFA Vertu Motor Fans Player of the Year award.
With Southampton's relegation to the Championship, the club is not eager to part with their players at lower valuations, aiming to offset the financial setback of moving to the English second-tier division.
This stance likely influenced their decision to reject Burnley's offer for the talented forward.
As the new season approaches, Tella is currently with his Southampton teammates preparing for their upcoming match on August 4th against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough Stadium.
The situation remains uncertain, and it remains to be seen if Burnley will make another attempt to acquire the highly-rated winger.
