Following a failed transfer to Glasgow Rangers, Southampton has loaned Anglo-Nigerian forward Samuel Edozie to RSC Anderlecht. The Belgian club announced the acquisition of the 21-year-old forward on a season-long loan deal through a statement on their official website.
Edozie, who previously played for Manchester City, contributed to Southampton's return to the Premier League with six goals and three assists. Despite his contributions, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup under manager Martin Russell, making just 16 appearances as a starter.
This season, Edozie has seen limited action, featuring in only three matches and starting just once, which was during a 5-3 win over Cardiff City in the second round of the Carabao Cup. With playing time becoming increasingly scarce, the winger sought a new opportunity to gain more game time.
The young forward was close to joining Rangers on transfer deadline day in England, but the move did not materialize. Consequently, Anderlecht stepped in to secure his services, aiming to strengthen their attacking options for the current season after falling short of the Jupiler Pro League title last year.
Edozie’s versatility, capable of playing across various attacking positions as well as in midfield, is expected to be an asset for Anderlecht. His ability to adapt to different roles will provide Brian Riemer's team with additional flexibility throughout the campaign.
This move marks Edozie as the sixth new addition for Anderlecht this summer. He joins a group of new arrivals that includes former Brentford defender Zanka, Aston Villa loanee Leander Dendoncker, and others such as Jan-Carlo Simić, Thomas Foket, and Ludwig Augustinsson.
With this loan, Edozie aims to make a significant impact at Anderlecht, contributing to the team's efforts to bounce back and challenge for top honors in the Belgian league.
