Southampton coach firmly warns Onuachu, Aribo before Brighton match

Posted : 21 February 2025

The Southampton manager, speaking at his pre-match press conference, emphasized the need for his team to improve their intensity ahead of their encounter with Brighton, who currently sit in 10th place. He acknowledged that while his squad has shown promising moments, they must sustain their performance levels for the entire match.

He expressed optimism about the team’s potential, stating that they have the ability to perform better. However, he admitted that inconsistency has been an issue, with periods of strong play followed by moments where they struggle to compete. He stressed that their main objective is to maintain a high level of competitiveness for the full 90 minutes.

The Croatian coach pointed out that intensity is a crucial factor in determining their success. Without intensity, he believes they cannot compete effectively, but with it, they can challenge teams like Brighton and Bournemouth. He made it clear that his expectation is for the team to bring that level of intensity to every match.

Praising Brighton’s progress, he noted how the club has continuously improved by recruiting talented players and making smart investments. He credited their consistent development to a well-structured approach that has helped them grow stronger each season.

He highlighted Brighton’s ability to maintain their playing style despite managerial changes. According to him, the influence of previous coaches, including Roberto De Zerbi, has contributed to the team's tactical evolution and overall stability.

Comparing Brighton to other clubs, he pointed out the advantages of having an extended stay in the Premier League. He noted that teams like Ipswich, who have remained in the top flight for several years, benefit from financial stability and the ability to sign quality players.

The discussion concluded with a mention of Southampton’s key players. Paul Onuachu has managed two goals and one assist in 15 appearances this season, while Joe Aribo has scored three times in 24 matches. Their performances will be crucial in Southampton’s quest for success.
