Sources: Man City’s Ilkay Gundogan on free transfer to Barcelona

According to sources, Barcelona has reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Ilkay Gundogan as a free agent. The 32-year-old midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal with an option for a third year. Gundogan turned down offers to extend his stay at City, as well as proposals from Arsenal and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
The deal is pending the results of a physical examination conducted on Wednesday.
Barcelona's financial constraints led them to explore the free agent market. City was unwilling to match Barca's financial offer and would only extend a contract for one year with an option for a second.
Gundogan's arrival at Barca aligns with coach Xavi Hernandez's desire to enhance midfield creativity and goal scoring following Lionel Messi's departure.
Gundogan's versatility in midfield, particularly his ability to play in a deeper role, is valued by the club.
However, Barcelona still intends to find a direct replacement for the departing Sergio Busquets.
Gundogan departs City after leading them to a historic treble, including their first Champions League title, and leaves with five Premier League titles and 14 trophies in total.
