Tottenham Hotspur's manager, Ange Postecoglou, expressed confidence in Dominic Solanke's progress after the striker contributed to a 3-0 Europa League victory over Qarabag, scoring one goal and assisting another. Since joining Spurs from Bournemouth for a deal potentially reaching £65 million ($87 million), Solanke has faced challenges, including missing two matches due to an ankle injury early in the season.
The 27-year-old's 68th-minute goal against Qarabag marked his second consecutive match finding the net, following his earlier goal in a league victory over Brentford. Postecoglou acknowledged Solanke's slow start, noting that his lack of a preseason and a subsequent injury hindered his match fitness compared to his teammates. However, he praised Solanke's all-around performance, emphasizing the importance of his ability to hold up play while the team was reduced to ten men.
Additionally, Postecoglou highlighted the impact of 23-year-old Brennan Johnson, who has scored in three straight matches since Spurs’ loss to Arsenal. With the team facing adversity after going down to ten men, Postecoglou noted Johnson's critical role in maintaining attacking options and his effective partnership with Solanke, which has blossomed in recent games.
