Lagos-based Smart City FC on Thursday started the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season's campaign with a hard earned victory over Edel fc of Anambra state.
The game, which took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, lived up to its billings, as both teams battled each other with genuine intentions to win, but it was Smart City FC that smiled home with maximum points, as they were more clinical in front of goal and kept their backline well disciplined in carrying out their defensive duties.
Goals from Kalu Daniel and Savio Idezi were enough for Smart City to carry the day in a game that was very well contested and entertaining, too.
Speaking after the game, Smart City coach Sodiq Dabiri was elated with the outcome of the game, saying, "It's always a good feeling to get a good result in the first game of the season.
"I want to first thank God for this victory, I am really elated about the victory. It will go a long way in boosting our morale and confidence going onto our next, and I know more victory awaits us in subsequent games, by the special grace of God, " he said.
Meanwhile, Smart City FC striker, Kalu Daniel, said he was grateful to God for that his team got the desired result and that he is deeply happy that, he got a goal that help his team to victory.
"It was a good game, and I thank God, we started the season with victory in front of our home fans.
``It was a good feeling, and we thank our fans for their support, and we promise to continue to make them happy this season, " he added.
Smart City FC started have now started with an emphatic 2-0 victory of Edel FC, in the NNL season.
It will be recalled that both teams played out a 1-1 draw last season in Lagos.
