Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has called for improved welfare packages for coaches in the league amidst concerns over the poor pay for coaches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Ogunmodede voiced his concerns in an interview while answering questions surrounding the performance of home-based coaches, especially in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The 44-year-old Ogunmodede has been in charge of the Sky Blue Stars since 2022, finishing second on the league table twice in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons.
The former Crown FC coach stated that poor welfare packages for the coaches are hindering the development of the domestic game.
“The money is not encouraging. The money is extremely not encouraging. If a team in Rwanda can pay coaches $10,000 to $15,000, and we are here paying less than a million naira for a coach, which is less than $1,000, what do you expect?” Ogunmodede stated.
“This is a coach that goes to a match venue, and everybody wants money from him,” he said.
