Simeone Praises Atletico's Resilience in Dramatic 4-3 Win Over Sevilla

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone hailed his team's resilience and the impact of his substitutes after they completed a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday, securing their ninth consecutive win across all competitions. Atletico fought back from 3-1 down in the second half, with key contributions from substitutes like Brazilian winger Samuel Lino, who scored the equalizer, and Antoine Griezmann, who netted the winner.

 

Simeone emphasized the importance of squad depth, highlighting how his substitutes played a crucial role in maintaining the team's competitive edge. With Atletico currently sitting third in the table, just one point behind Real Madrid and three points behind leaders Barcelona, the Argentine coach praised the collective effort. "The team is working very well as a unit," he said, expressing satisfaction with how his substitutes have contributed when called upon.

 

Lino's goal was especially meaningful for Simeone, who noted the winger’s persistence in searching for a goal. "Lino's goal makes me happy because he's been looking for it," Simeone explained. "Hopefully, it will give him the confidence he needs." The coach also pointed out the importance of his squad’s adaptability, with many players taking on various roles throughout the season.

 

Griezmann, Atletico’s all-time top scorer, received praise for his performance despite a difficult first half. Simeone acknowledged the French forward’s improvement in the second half, ultimately leading to the decisive fourth goal.

 

 However, Simeone remained cautious about the long season ahead, emphasizing that Atletico must stay focused and adaptable as they face challenges in multiple competitions. "The most important thing is to be strong and to make sure that these situations do as little damage as possible," Simeone concluded.
