Simeone Optimistic After Benfica Defeat, Prepares Atletico Madrid for Sociedad Challenge

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has responded to the criticisms following his team's 4-0 defeat against Benfica in the Champions League, asserting that the loss will motivate a strong comeback. As Atletico prepares to face Real Sociedad in LaLiga, the coach believes the setback will serve as a driving force rather than a source of negativity within the squad. Atletico currently sits fourth in LaLiga, remaining unbeaten with four wins and four draws, trailing leaders Barcelona by five points.

 

Simeone addressed concerns about the team's atmosphere, stating that he perceives a positive environment as they work towards their goals. He acknowledged the integration of new players who arrived during the final days of the transfer window, emphasizing the importance of helping them adapt swiftly to the team's dynamics. According to Simeone, the challenges faced recently should not be viewed as negative; instead, they represent an opportunity for growth and development.

 

With recent signings like Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez, Simeone emphasized the need for enhanced creativity and cohesion in the team's play. He noted that while commitment and intensity were present in their performances, there was a distinct lack of creative options during the match against Benfica. Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Real Sociedad, he expressed hope that the team can capitalize on the lessons learned and secure a victory.

 

Simeone also commented on Real Sociedad's attacking capabilities, highlighting their recent Europa League match where they fielded fewer regular starters. He anticipates that Sociedad will bring a strong offensive presence with players like Takefusa Kubo, Sheraldo Becker, and Mikel Oyarzabal. The Atletico coach recognizes the challenge posed by Sociedad, describing them as a courageous team that is particularly effective at the start of matches.
