"Shows glimpses of quality" – Blackburn boss praises Dennis' potential

Posted : 10 February 2025

Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace found reasons to be optimistic despite his team’s 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round clash on Sunday. One of the positives was the performance of Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis, who made his competitive debut for the club.

Dennis recently joined Blackburn on loan from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day and had only a few training sessions with his new teammates before being thrust into action. Despite his limited preparation time, he was handed a starting role against Wolves, surprising many observers.

The forward featured for 66 minutes before being substituted for Cauley Woodrow. During his time on the pitch, he showcased glimpses of his ability, particularly in the first half when he nearly reduced the deficit with a shot from a tight angle, which was well saved at the near post.

Dennis remained active throughout the game, posing a threat in attack. He registered a team-high three shots, provided two key passes, and successfully completed two dribbles, highlighting his attacking intent and determination to make an impact.

After the match, Eustace reflected on Dennis’ debut and praised his potential. Speaking to RoversTV, he noted that the Nigerian forward displayed flashes of his talent, acknowledging that he could become an important player for the team. The manager also commended the performances of Augustus Kargbo and Yuri, both of whom contributed to the team’s efforts.

The match was crucial for Dennis, who had been sidelined from competitive football for over nine months. Eustace emphasized that the game was an opportunity to get valuable minutes into the legs of several players while maintaining competitiveness against a strong Premier League opponent. He expressed satisfaction with the balance the team managed to strike between performance and player development.

With his FA Cup debut now behind him, Dennis is expected to be in contention for his first Championship appearance for Blackburn Rovers. His next opportunity could come on Wednesday night when the team faces West Brom at The Hawthorns, where he will be eager to build on his promising start.
