2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 16: Shooting Stars SC earns first away win in the Southwest derby win of the season

Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan earned their first away win of the season in the Southwest derby of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 16.


It was a significant leap for the Oluyole Warriors, who gained valuable points as they continue their gradual rise up the Nigeria Premier League table.

In a Southwestern derby at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, where Sunshine Stars played their home match, Shooting Stars secured a 1-0 away win, temporarily moving them into fifth place.


Before the match, they were in eighth position and had, at one point, found themselves near the relegation zone.


Shooting Stars last won the Nigerian league in 1998 and set a negative record by becoming the first Nigerian reigning champion to be relegated the following season.


However, now they are within striking distance of the top, thanks to a 28th-minute strike by Otakpo Aghahowa, which helped the long-time former champions secure all three points.
