The Shooting Stars of Ibadan is one of the oldest clubsides and subsequently referred to as one of the traditional clubs in Nigeria and not only that, the Oluyole Warlords is one of the most decorated in Nigeria.
Shooting Stars of Ibadan, founded in the 1950s' is formerly known as Western Nigeria Development Company (WNDC) and was later renamed Industrial Investment and Credit Corporation (IICC) Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, then known as WNDC, was one of the founding clubs that participated in the inaugural Premier League in 1972.
The club has since had its shelf decorated with many medals such as five times winners of Nigerian League (1976, 1980, 1983, 1995, and 1998).
The club also won the Nigerian Federation Cup eight times (1959, 1961, 1966, 1969, 1971, 1977, 1979 and 1995).
They are also the African Cup of Champions Runners-up in 1984 and 1996, and won CAF Cup in 1992.
Shooting Stars are also the winners of African Cup Winners Cup in 1976 and West African Club Championship in 1998.
IICC, as they were called then got a nickname as Shooting Stars on the suggestion from the Team Foundation members late Jide Johnson and Niyi Omowon who regarded the members of the team as stars.
Shooting Stars is also one of the most followed clubsides in Nigeria and they have Lekan Salami Stadium as their home ground after leaving Liberty Stadium.
Shooting Stars is the first club to win the FA cup on club basis in Nigeria in 1971, players like Aderoju Omowon, Niyi Akande, Jossy Lad, Amusa Adisa were prominent in the squad and is also the first Nigerian clubside to win an international trophy.
Notable football icons that have played for Shooting Stars includes: Segun Odegbami, former "African Footballer of the Year" Rashidi Yekini, Felix Owolabi (Owo Blow), Niyi Akande, Taiwo Ogunjobi, Duke Udi, Olumide Harris, Golden Ajeboh, Ajibade Babalade, Ademola Johnson, and Jude Axelsson.
Shooting Stars got relegated from Premier league in 2006 and came back in 2009 after three years sojourn in the lower league. The team went on relegation again in 2017 but gained promotion back to top flight in 2020.
Shooting Stars finished the 2022/2023 Abridged Nigeria Professional Football League sitting on 6th position on Group A table.
