Sheffield United kicked off their campaign to return to the Premier League with a solid 2-0 victory over Preston on Friday. The Blades, relegated from the top flight last season, made an impressive start to their promotion bid. Oliver Arblaster’s deflected shot put them ahead in the 12th minute, and Gustavo Hamer sealed the win in the second half by capitalizing on a mistake from Preston goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
In contrast, Blackburn Rovers, who narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season, had a strong showing against Derby County. Despite leaving top scorer Sammie Szmodics on the bench—due to interest from Ipswich—Blackburn demonstrated their strength. Szmodics made his presence felt by scoring and assisting in the second half, while Andreas Weimann and Yuki Ohashi also scored on their debuts after Tyrhys Dolan’s initial goal.
Derby, newly promoted from League One, faced a challenging return to the Championship as they suffered a 4-2 defeat. Curtis Nelson and Kane Wilson scored for the Rams, but it was a tough introduction to the second tier. Blackburn’s performance showcased their readiness for the new season, while Derby will need to regroup following their defeat.
