In a shocking turn of events, the former welfare officer of Heartland Queens Football Club, Uju Ogbu, has been accused of engaging in fraudulent activities aimed at sabotaging the club.
The revelations come months after her suspension in May 2024, ordered by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, due to allegations of misconduct, corrupt practices, and sabotage.
The suspension, which initially seemed to signal the end of an era of alleged malpractice within the club, has now taken a dramatic twist.
Reports indicate that Ogbu has been impersonating Heartland Queens to broker unauthorized player transfer deals, leaving the club grappling with the fallout from her actions.
In one of the most recent schemes, Ogbu allegedly sold six Heartland Queens players to Abia Angels FC using forged documents, including fake stamps and outdated letterheads still in her possession. The underhanded transaction was discovered at the NWFL Glass House.
According to a club insider who spoke on condition of anonymity, “Abia Angels wrote to us regarding the players initially, but no official agreement had been reached, and we have not received any payment. Those players remain legally ours until further notice.”
The club has since alerted the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) to the fraudulent activities of the scammer and assured stakeholders that an investigation is underway.
Beyond the fraudulent transfers, Uju Ogbu is accused of hijacking Heartland Queens’ official social media accounts and email, further destabilizing the team’s media operations.
This act temporarily hampered the club’s ability to communicate effectively with its fans and stakeholders before a new handle was created to re-establish fan engagement.
Adding to the allegations, Ogbu is said to have refused to return club properties still in her possession since her suspension.
This has raised concerns about the extent of her hold over the team’s operations and the potential for further damage.
Evidence includes a clearance letter Ogbu allegedly issued to Abia Angels.
The document, dated October 2024, bears her signature and features a questionable roadside stamp, raising further questions about the authenticity of her dealings.
While Heartland Queens is yet to release an official statement, sources within the club have confirmed that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
“We are following due process and hope to resolve the issue soon. For now, we’re focused on ensuring the proper steps are taken to protect the club’s interests,” a source said.
