Bayern Munich fans expressed their discontent by throwing tennis balls onto the pitch during the club's German Cup first-round match against third-tier team Preussen Muenster. Despite resting several key players, including star signing Harry Kane, Bayern easily won the rescheduled tie, which had been postponed by nearly a month due to scheduling conflicts with the German Super Cup.
The protest by Bayern supporters led to a brief interruption in play as hundreds of tennis balls littered the field during the first half. Play resumed once the balls were cleared.
Despite Kane's absence, Bayern had no trouble finding the back of the net. Eighteen-year-old Mathys Tel provided an assist and scored a goal for Thomas Tuchel's side. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring for Bayern with a header after just nine minutes, and Konrad Laimer's header and a volley by 20-year-old Frans Kraetzig put Bayern firmly in control by halftime.
Serge Gnabry, who started the match, suffered an early injury, and Bayern later confirmed that he had fractured his left forearm. Manager Tuchel announced that Gnabry would undergo surgery on Wednesday and would be sidelined for "several weeks."
The protest by Bayern fans highlighted their dissatisfaction with the scheduling decisions that led to the match's rescheduling and disruption.
