Saudi league attracts world football stars, Sadio Mane joins Al Nassr

Posted : 02 August 2023
The Saudi league continues to attract some of the biggest names in world football, with Sadio Mane being the latest addition. The Senegalese attacking player has been bought from Bayern Munich for a fee of €40 million and will now join Al Nassr.

He is expected to earn a weekly salary of around £650,000 million. Mane will be playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozovic at his new club.

Initially, Mane was hesitant about moving to the Saudi league and preferred to stay in Europe. However, when Bayern Munich made it clear that they were not interested in retaining his services for the upcoming season, and after seeing other stars joining the kingdom, he eventually decided to accept the generous offer from Al Nassr.

The transfer fee paid for Mane will cover the amount Bayern Munich had paid to Liverpool for his services last season.

Mane's move follows the trend of big names shifting to the Saudi league. Cristiano Ronaldo was the first to make the move last year, and other notable players, such as Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, and Jordan Henderson, have also joined the league.

Sadio Mane began his European career at French club Metz before moving to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, where he gained prominence with impressive performances. He then joined Southampton in the Premier League and later moved to Liverpool in 2016 for a fee of €34 million, making him the most expensive African player at the time.

With Liverpool, he achieved great success, winning all domestic titles, including the English Championship in the 2019/20 season, ending the club's 30-year wait for the title. He also played a crucial role in Liverpool's Champions League triumph in 2018/19.

After being bought by Bayern Munich last summer, Mane faced some injury setbacks during the season but still managed to win two titles with the team, the German Super Cup, and the Bundesliga.
