Santos president Marcelo Teixeira has publicly called for Neymar to return to the club, posting an emotional message on Instagram urging the Brazilian star to come back to his roots. Teixeira did not confirm any official agreement but expressed his desire to see the 32-year-old forward wear the club’s colors again. "The time has come, Neymar. The time has come for you to return to your people," he declared, welcoming him with open arms and emphasizing that Santos remains his home.
Neymar’s contract with Saudi club Al Hilal was terminated by mutual agreement on Monday, cutting short his injury-marred 18-month spell in Riyadh. Despite signing a lucrative deal reportedly worth $104 million per year, he managed only seven appearances for the club after joining in August 2023.
His return to Santos would mark a homecoming to the club where he first rose to prominence, having made 225 appearances and scored 136 goals before moving to Europe.
The Brazilian forward enjoyed a stellar career after leaving Santos, joining Barcelona in 2013 and winning the Champions League in 2015 alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain shattered the world transfer record by signing him for €220 million ($230 million).
Neymar is also Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, with 79 goals in 128 appearances, surpassing the legendary Pelé, another iconic figure from Santos.
