Kwara United FC's Coach, Sani, says away draw against Rangers International important for team's survival

Posted : 12 March 2024

The Head Coach of Kwara United FC, Tunde Sanni, stated that the crucial draw his team secured against Enugu Rangers Int'l in Match Day 24 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will inspire the team to greater efforts in the ongoing campaign. Coach Tunde Sanni shared this perspective during a post-match interview in Enugu.

Kwara United, facing challenges in the second phase of the campaign, held Enugu Rangers Int'l to a goalless draw at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. Prior to this match, the Flying Antelope had won five consecutive games and kept clean sheets in six successive matches.

Coach Sanni emphasized that the team is not secure in its current position and expressed surprise at finding his team in that position on the league table. He stated, "This draw will spur us to more action, especially when we go back home, because the position we are in now, we are not safe; we are surprised to find ourselves at that position," said Sanni.

He acknowledged the team's young and vibrant players, recognizing that something went wrong for the team. He assured that deficiencies in the team would be addressed moving forward.

Commenting on the officiating in the match, Coach Sanni expressed concern about the use of overtime by the match officials, noting that the game should have ended earlier. He thanked God that the game concluded in a stalemate.

The coach highlighted the team's difficulty in securing victories at home, citing that the team has drawn five matches at home and a total of 11 overall. He expressed determination to go for a win in the next home game against Bayelsa United.

"Our home is our problem; we don't know what is happening at our home," remarked Sanni. While he couldn't pinpoint the exact problem, he promised that the team would undergo positive changes over time.

Coach Tunde Sanni assured that Kwara United would avoid relegation as the team progresses, starting with the draw against Enugu Rangers Int'l. "We are going to survive; do we look like a team that is supposed to go on relegation?" he commented.

With the draw against Enugu Rangers Int'l, Kwara United maintains the 17th position on the league table with 26 points after 23 games, including an outstanding match against Rivers United. Coach Tunde Sanni concluded that the team is prepared to remain in the top-flight league.
