Sadiq Umar's brace secured Valencia's draw against Osasuna

Posted : 03 March 2025

Super Eagles forward Sadiq Umar netted his first La Liga brace for Valencia in their thrilling 3-3 draw against Osasuna at Estadio El Sadar on Sunday.

Sadiq was given a rare start for Valencia due to Hugo Duro’s ongoing fitness struggles. The Spanish striker had been dealing with injuries over the past two weeks, providing Sadiq with a chance to earn valuable playing time.

The match turned into an exciting goal-fest, largely due to defensive lapses on both sides. Valencia took an early lead in the 14th minute through Diego Lopez, who capitalized on a well-placed assist from Luis Rioja. However, Osasuna quickly responded, as Aimar Oroz found the net in the 26th minute to level the score.

Just six minutes later, Sadiq restored Valencia’s advantage. The Super Eagles striker showcased his clinical finishing, squeezing between two Osasuna defenders to meet a square pass and slotting the ball calmly into the net.

Despite Valencia’s attacking efforts, their defensive issues persisted, allowing Osasuna to strike twice more before halftime through Aimar and Ante Budimir. The second half saw fewer goal-scoring opportunities, with Valencia pushing hard for an equalizer. Their persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute when Sadiq produced a moment of brilliance to complete his brace.

Sergi Canos delivered a low cross into the box, and with his back to goal, Sadiq executed a clever flick that sent the ball curling into the far corner. That impressive effort marked his first-ever La Liga brace and ensured Valencia salvaged a draw from the encounter. Since joining Valencia, Sadiq has displayed growing confidence, improving his link-up play, experimenting with new techniques, and showing greater composure on the ball.

His second goal highlighted the self-assurance he has gained in his new environment. With four goals already for Valencia, his contributions have been significant. Sadiq is steadily proving to coach Carlos Corberan that he is a dependable attacking option and could even push for a starting role if he maintains his momentum.
