Sadiq competes for two La Liga awards, against Mbappe

Posted : 20 March 2025

Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has made an exciting leap in his career by earning nominations for both the La Liga Goal of the Month and Player of the Month awards for March. This marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian forward, highlighting his growing influence in European football.

Sadiq has been a standout player for Valencia, with his sensational performances catching the attention of fans and pundits alike. One of the most memorable moments of the month was his stunning backheel goal in the 3-3 draw against Osasuna on March 2, 2025. His skill and composure in that moment have made it one of the highlights of March in La Liga.

His nomination for the Goal of the Month award is a direct result of that incredible backheel, which came when Valencia was trailing in the match. As the game neared its end, Sadiq calmly executed a perfectly timed backheel that left Osasuna’s goalkeeper, Sergio Herrera, helpless. The goal was a testament to his technical ability and sharp awareness on the field.

In addition to his remarkable goal, Sadiq’s overall contributions to Valencia have been impressive, earning him a spot in the race for Player of the Month. Throughout March, the Nigerian striker’s consistent goal-scoring performances have been a driving force for the team, solidifying his status as one of the key players in Valencia's attack.

Since joining Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad in January 2025, Sadiq has made an immediate impact, scoring four goals in just eight league appearances. His ability to make a difference in crucial moments, combined with his strong link-up play, has made him one of the most promising forwards in La Liga.

Sadiq’s competition for the Player of the Month award includes some of the league’s biggest stars, such as Kylian Mbappe, Isco Alarcon, Marcos Alonso, and Pedro Díaz. The winner of both the Goal and Player of the Month awards will be determined through a combination of fan votes and an expert panel.

While the recognition in La Liga is an exciting achievement for Sadiq, his focus is also on international football. He is currently in Kigali, Rwanda, preparing for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. His impressive club form will undoubtedly play a key role in Nigeria's ambitions for the World Cup, as he continues to make his mark both at the club and international levels.
