Rudi Garcia Has Been Fired as Coach of Cristiano Ronaldo's Saudi Club Al Nassr

Posted : 18 April 2023
Due to rumors of a tense relationship with top player Cristiano Ronaldo, Garcia departs the Saudi Arabian team.

A statement read: "The board and everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Rudi and his staff for their dedicated work."

Later, Ronaldo shared an Instagram story with a picture of him and Garcia with the message: "Pleasure to have worked with you. Wishing you all the best for the future."

Due to Al Nassr's status in the Saudi Pro League, Garcia has one game to preserve his job there.
He criticized the players after they drew 0-0 last Sunday with mediocre Al Feiha, another setback to their aspirations of winning the league for the first time since 2019, saying: "The result is bad. I don't feel satisfied with the players."

Garcia led Al Nassr to seven victories in their last eight league contests, but he was unable to lead his team to the division's top place, leaving him battling for his job at the Riyadh-based team.

In the Saudi Pro League, which has one of the highest rates of manager dismissals in the world, head coaches stay in their positions for an average of just over four months. Garcia stayed in his position at Al Nassr for longer than the majority of other managers.

Al Nassr will play their next game on Tuesday against longtime rivals and the current Asian champions Al Hilal. They are currently three points behind the league's leaders Al Ittihad.

In addition to failing to defeat any of their closest rivals, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, or Al Shabab, in the league this year, Al Nassr fell to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup final in January.
