Romano says Osimhen won’t play until January, unless unexpected

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who has been at the center of transfer speculation involving Chelsea and Al-Ahli. This speculation has captured headlines both in Italy and internationally due to his failed moves.


Throughout the summer, Osimhen was frequently linked with Chelsea. However, a deal fell through mainly due to discrepancies between his wage expectations and what Chelsea was willing to offer. His current salary at Napoli remains significantly higher than what Chelsea proposed.

 


Currently, Osimhen is without a jersey number at Napoli, as the club reassigned his number to former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. Despite this, Osimhen remains eager to leave Napoli, but his options are limited with most major European leagues having closed their transfer windows.


The Saudi Arabian transfer window remains open until September 2, but Napoli's sporting director Giovanni Manna has suggested that Osimhen is unlikely to join a Saudi Pro League team. Napoli's management has expressed their intention not to reintegrate Osimhen into the squad after his failed transfers.


According to Romano, this situation implies that Osimhen will likely remain inactive until the January transfer window, unless an unexpected opportunity arises. Romano discussed the situation on his YouTube channel, noting that Napoli is focused on its current squad and not looking to reintegrate players like Osimhen or Mário Rui.


Romano pointed out that unless there is a significant development from other markets, Osimhen's situation will remain difficult, and he might not play with a club until the January transfer window. This period will be crucial for determining his future.


Since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has made 133 official appearances and had a standout season in 2022-2023, scoring 31 goals across all competitions and helping Napoli win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.
