Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has addressed the ongoing speculation linking Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen with a potential transfer to Chelsea in January.
The speculation gained traction following John Obi Mikel's recent comments suggesting that Osimhen might move to Chelsea when the transfer window reopens. Mikel hinted that the Super Eagles striker was close to joining Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea had shown interest in Osimhen over the summer and made several contract offers, but negotiations fell through. The deal failed to materialize on deadline day because Chelsea could not match Osimhen’s current salary at Napoli.
Mikel’s podcast implied that a deal was nearly completed, but timing issues prevented the finalization of the agreement. Despite this, Mikel suggested that a move to Chelsea could still be feasible in January.
Romano, in a recent YouTube update, clarified that Osimhen is now committed to his new team, Galatasaray. He emphasized that Osimhen and his representatives are focused on honoring their commitment to the Turkish club.
Romano confirmed that Chelsea continues to admire Osimhen, despite the earlier complications. He acknowledged that Chelsea understands the challenges of the negotiations that took place in August, especially regarding financial and contractual issues.
However, Romano reaffirmed that while Chelsea remains interested in Osimhen, the player's current priority is to focus on his responsibilities with Galatasaray.
