RKC Waalwijk provides update on goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen's recovery after collision in Ajax match

RKC Waalwijk has issued an update on the condition of their goalkeeper, Etienne Vaessen, following a collision during a match against Ajax. Vaessen, 28, was knocked unconscious in the 84th minute of the game after colliding with Ajax forward Brian Brobbey. The match was subsequently abandoned, and medical staff attended to Vaessen on the pitch. Fortunately, he regained consciousness while being stretchered off.
The club expressed their relief that Vaessen had a positive night and is continuing to recover. They emphasized the importance of allowing him the time and rest needed for his recovery in the coming hours and days. RKC Waalwijk requested privacy and support for Vaessen and his family during this period.
Players on both teams were visibly shaken by the incident, with some too affected to continue playing. The match ended with Ajax leading 3-2 when it was abandoned. Ajax also shared their concern for Vaessen's well-being, emphasizing that this situation goes beyond football.
Vaessen was promptly taken to the hospital for further medical examination.
