Rivers United FC chief tactician, Stanley Eguma, has said that the technical in depth against Sunshine Stars FC of Akure made the difference in the opening encounter.
Ebube Duru’s second-half goal was just about enough to secure we picked maximum points and move top of the table in the NPFL Championship play-off (Super 6) ongoing at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos state.
The left full-back sent Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal the wrong way from 12 yards after Mark Gibson Theo was bundled down in the penalty box.
Sochima Victor made a full-stretch save in the second half and we withstood further late pressure before clinching the three points needed to go top of the table.
Coach Eguma said that both team did well during the match, but Rivers United were more tactically disciplined.
“I commend the two teams for the effort they put in. We had played Sunshine Stars in the past, two times and we know their character.
“We know their game so we had to make some tactical adjustments as we played them today and I think that's what gave us the win,” he said.
