Owing to their superlative show during the last season campaign at the CAF Confederation Cup where they played up to quarter finals of the competition before being eliminated by the Young Africans of Tanzania, Third-placed NPFL team, Rivers United, have joined the rank of elite clubs in Africa.
Although the Pride of Rivers failed to reach the Semi-final of the second Africa's money shining competition with a 2-0 home loss to the Young Africans of Tanzania in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, their efforts to reach the stage have been acknowledged.
The Stanley Eguma-led players were dumped out in the quarterfinals as they could only manage a goalless draw in the second leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar-es-Salam.
The 2022/2023 NPFL champions had earlier come second in the Group B table of the CAF Confederation Cup behind ASEC Minosa of Cote d’Ivoire.
Having busted into continental competitions for the second time, the Premier League giants, Rivers United, have been rewarded with scoring points which rate them as the 20th-best club in Africa.
The ranking was conducted by footballdatabase.com based on the points scored by the clubs in the CAF club competition over the last seasons.
As listed on the website, the Pride of Rivers finished 20th with 1478 points.
Other Nigerian clubs on the top 60 list are reigning champions Enyimba (34), Akwa United (37), Plateau United (42), Rangers (56) and Kano Pillars (59).
Egyptian giants Al Ahly, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns and Morocco Wydad Casablanca are the top three.
