The Pride of Rivers lost the league title last season to Enyimba International and also failed to make it beyond the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
On the spirit in the camp, Eguma admitted that it would be a tough season but insisted River could make it.
“We are looking ahead to a brighter season, In the last two seasons we were champions, last season we were unable to defend the title.
``This season we have to brace up and become a champion again that is our target and also to make a good impact on the continent and go beyond the quarter-final of last season.
``We have a very big target his season and we are set to achieve that target, Though is very difficult but is insurmountable.
Rivers United made it to the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup last season before being eliminated 2-0 on aggregate to Young Africans of Tanzania.
They have been drawn against Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in the second round of the competition this year and Eguma believes they can emerge victorious.
Etoile Filante defeated Casa Sports of Senegal in the first preliminary round while Rivers United was drawn bye.
“Our opponent ( Etoile Filante ) participated in the first round and they have match fitness and have also tasted the competition’s toughness
But it will not deter us because we know what it takes to compete and we are walking towards I believe that at the end of the day will give a good account of ourselves”, The seasoned gaffer stated.
