The Technical Manager of Rivers United, Finidi George, has praised his players for securing a crucial point on the road against Bendel Insurance in Match Day 1 of the 2024/2025 NPFL season.
Goalkeeper Bamidele Adeniyi was sent off for the first time in Rivers United colors, but the Pride of Rivers stood firm to secure a point at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The reliable goalkeeper received a red card early in the second half following a clash with an Insurance forward just outside the box.
George noted that playing under such circumstances is not easy, especially in the NPFL.
While expressing joy at having secured the point, George said they will shift focus to the next game at home.
"It's never easy. During my time with Enyimba, it was always difficult to even pick a point.
"For us to play with one man less and still manage to defend until the end, I must commend my boys.
"This is just the beginning, and now we need to focus on how we can consolidate at home.
"We will be playing at home and will try to give our best to win that game. Every game is difficult in the NPFL.
"We are happy with this one point. You can't take anything away from them.
"They gave their best, but at the end of the day, getting that one point is crucial for us."
Rivers United will host Heartland FC on Sunday, September 15, in their first home match.
