The Rivers United Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, has hailed his team's dominant display in the 2-0 win over Enyimba FC in a rescheduled 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 14 game.
A brace from Deputy Echeta ensured that the Pride of Rivers beat the defending champions in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Eguma noted that his players lived up to expectations against the People's Elephants of Aba, adding that their opponents gave them a big test.
"It was a good game with three points in the bag. I appreciate the players and thank them for their effort.
"This is a top-class encounter, two rival opponents, Rivers United/Enyimba FC is a cracker any day.
"They are defending champions and they showed that today. They gave us a big test, and we lived up to expectations.
"Having been on the road for some time, with trips to Gombe, Enugu, and back to Port Harcourt, the effects of the wear and tear of the league have set in, but today, against all odds, to come out with a resounding 2-0 victory is a good one."
The two-goal hero and Rivers United pacy winger, Deputy Echeta, also expressed delight in getting a brace for his team in the 2-0 win over Enyimba FC in the rescheduled game.
Echeta capped off a one-man show against the People's Elephant of Aba, netting in both halves in the encounter decided in Port Harcourt.
According to him, getting his name on the scoresheet was the reason Rivers United signed him from Bendel Insurance, adding that he would continue to make them happy.
Echeta equally noted that the Pride of Rivers will keep pushing harder to amass the maximum points in their remaining two outstanding matches.
"I’m so happy with the brace. What a way to open my account with Rivers United and again scoring against the defending Champions.
"This is what I’m brought here to do, and I hope to do it more and make the Pride of Rivers happy.
"You can see it means a lot to us. Everyone here is happy today with the win. We are trying to get all available points in our outstanding games to push the team up where they belong.
"We played two already and lost, and our plans are to fight for the remaining six points and see where it takes us to."
Rivers United will take on third-placed Doma United in their next league game in Port Harcourt as the second stanza is set to begin.
