Rivers Govt. to upgrade state-owned stadia

The Rivers State government has outlined plans to give several stadia and sports facilities in the state a facelift.


Revealing this, Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Barr. Christopher Green, identified the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Yakubu Gowon Stadium, and Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex (Civic Centre), among others, as some of the facilities earmarked for the exercise.


"The Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium will undergo a massive renovation," Barr. Green said, adding that the facility will soon host football games sanctioned by Africa's and the world's football governing bodies, CAF and FIFA.


"The Yakubu Gowon Stadium will also undergo a massive renovation. The Alfred Diette Spiff Civic Centre will also undergo a massive renovation.


"The Basketball Stadium and other such facilities in Rivers State will also undergo massive renovation," he said.
