Rivers Angels' coach, Blankson, dreams of NWFL league title

The head coach of Rivers Angels, Tosan Blankson, has expressed confidence that his team can win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title.


The former Delta Queens gaffer made this statement after the Jewels of Rivers played out a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa Queens in the NWFL Premiership South-South derby in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.


According to the former league-winning coach, his team's impressive performance and ability to avoid defeat against all odds make them favorites to win their first league title since 2021.


"I am at a loss for words. If these girls can play football like this against all odds—when I say 'all odds,' I know exactly what I mean," Blankson said.


"I don’t like talking about officiating, but if these girls (Rivers Angels players) can play like this, it means winning the Super Six is within our reach because we are already certain of qualifying. Winning the Super Six is our goal."


Both teams maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign after five games, with 11 points each.


Blankson now shifts his focus to their next clash against debutants Benue Queens next Wednesday.


"The team has always been in top form. This is nothing new. The first half is for the players, and the second half is for the coaches. We all saw how the second half played out today. This draw is as good as a win," he added.


"We accept the draw and will now prepare for our next match."
