Super Eagles midfielder, Izunna Uzochukwu, who faced deportation from Denmark, has made a return to the Scandinavian country, where he is actively working to reinstate his residence permit. As reported by bold.dk citing Sport Fyn, Uzochukwu participated in a test game for B 1909 against Næsby's U19 team on Saturday, signaling his commitment to resuming football activities in Denmark.
The footballer has been entangled in a legal battle since 2018 when he transitioned to Chinese club MZ Hakka. His Danish residence permit was revoked at that time, leading to a prolonged struggle to regain it. Despite his close relations with Denmark, including a girlfriend and a daughter, the authorities rejected his appeal against deportation in December, compelling him to leave the country.
Uzochukwu, a former player for FC Midtjylland and OB, has not given up on his pursuit of a Danish residence permit. His return to Denmark and participation in a local test game demonstrate his determination. The footballer's lawyer is actively working on legal procedures to rectify the paperwork and address the complexities surrounding his residency status.
Apart from his professional aspirations, Uzochukwu's personal ties, including family connections in Denmark, contribute to the urgency of resolving the residency matter. Despite the legal setbacks, the 33-year-old midfielder remains optimistic about his chances of securing the permit and continuing his career in Danish football.
Having played a substantial role in Danish football, featuring in 201 matches in the Danish Superliga between 2009 and 2018, Uzochukwu has left a notable legacy. His time in the league included stints with Aalesund and Amkar Perm, adding to his extensive football experience and making his return to Denmark a significant chapter in his career.
