Report: Sir Jim Ratcliffe likely to win takeover battle for Manchester United
Posted : 08 June 2023
According to reports, the long-running takeover battle for Manchester United is expected to reach its conclusion this month, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe emerging as the likely victor.
The report states that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the INEOS chief, is on the verge of achieving his goal of acquiring Manchester United, with a deal likely to be finalized in the coming weeks.
Alongside Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been one of the leading contenders in the race to buy Manchester United. The latest development reveals that both parties have recently submitted their third and final bids.
Sheikh Jassim's proposal entails a complete buyout, while Ratcliffe's offer involves acquiring a controlling interest in the club and allowing Joel and Avram Glazer, the current owners, to temporarily retain a 20% stake in Manchester United.
However, Ratcliffe's offer includes a clause that outlines a phased departure for the Glazer family from the club. Under Ratcliffe's plans, all six Glazers would remain at the club for a temporary period, but they would have no control over the club's operations. Furthermore, they would be contractually obligated to leave Manchester United in the forthcoming years.
The imminent conclusion of the takeover battle has generated considerable anticipation among football fans and industry observers alike, as Manchester United's ownership structure looks set to undergo significant changes.
