Remo Stars' head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has revealed the adjustments he made to overcome the in-form Niger Tornadoes in an NPFL Matchday 32 encounter.
A brace from Sikiru Alimi and Ahmed Akinyele secured maximum points for the Sky Blue Stars in Ikenne on Friday.
After the match, Ogunmodede praised the impressive turnaround of the Ikon Allah Boys, describing their performance as exceptional since the second half of the season.
He noted that his team focused on keeping the ball on the ground to neutralize the threat posed by the visitors, who often use their height advantage to dominate opponents. Additionally, he emphasized employing counterattacks in the second half to capitalize on their opponents' weaknesses.
The Remo coach commended his players for their efforts in securing the victory, expressing disappointment over dropping points in their previous two away games.
"The match was tense for us. We were apprehensive before the game because Tornadoes have been performing exceptionally well in the second half of the season. They have become a formidable team and have shown improvement in all aspects.
"This is not the same Tornadoes we faced in the first round in Kaduna. They have gained points in away matches and have become a threat to other teams. However, today we stuck to our game plan. We knew they had a height advantage, so we aimed to keep the ball on the ground and play quickly.
"We managed to tire them out in the first ten minutes, and by the 20th-25th minute, they were already fatigued, which was part of our plan.
"We capitalized on their slow defense due to their height advantage and scored two goals. In the second half, we focused on maintaining our lead and countered their attacks effectively.
"I'm pleased with the victory. After two disappointing away matches, we needed to bounce back. Securing three points this time is crucial for us as contenders."
