2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 30: Relegation-threatened Plateau United to engage Kano Pillars in cagey fight

Posted : 23 March 2025

Four-time league winners, Kano Pillars, will now have to fight back to earn points on the road and atone for their lackadaisical approach in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 29, where they drew 1-1 against visitors Nasarawa United FC, who are fighting relegation.

Kano Pillars suffered a setback during the week, as their journey in the 2025 President Federation Cup was ended on Tuesday following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Enugu Rangers International at the Bwari Township Stadium.

Chiedozie Okorie’s 65th-minute goal sealed the victory for the Enugu-based side in a highly competitive match between two of Nigeria’s most accomplished clubs.

It is also worth recalling that Sai Masu Gida have been without their Technical Adviser, Usman Abdallah, who has been suspended since February 2 after the goalless draw with visiting Bayelsa United. Prior to that, Kano Pillars were crushed by the fast-moving Ikorodu City FC of Lagos.

In the interim, club legend and chief coach, Ahmed Garba Yaro-Yaro, was appointed to take charge of the technical team and is supported by assistant coaches Abubakar Musa, Gambo Muhammad, Suleiman Shuaibu, and Ayuba Musa.

Based on recent league results, Yaro-Yaro has performed well, earning valuable points. In their last five matches, Sai Masu Gida have gathered two wins, two draws, and one loss, with the only disappointment being the home draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

For the home side, 16th-placed Plateau United, Saturday’s fixture in the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 30 is a must-win, as they are not yet safe from relegation, sitting just two places above the red zone.

The last five matches for the Peace Boys of Jos have been less than impressive, with two wins, two losses, and one draw, leaving them with 35 points, just three points ahead of 18th-placed Sunshine Stars, who have 32 points.

Fans should expect fireworks in Jos as Kano Pillars visit in a fight against a club still battling to secure their NPFL status.

Seventh-placed Kano Pillars aim to sneak into the continental spots if other teams drop points.

Plateau United have been solid at home in recent weeks, while Kano Pillars have struggled on the road, losing their last two away fixtures. This should be a tight contest, but home advantage gives Plateau United a slight edge.
