Relegation escapee, Akwa United adopt open screening ahead of 2024/2025 season

Posted : 14 July 2024

The management of Akwa United has announced the adoption of an open field screening process for selecting players who will represent the club in the 2024/2025 season. This decision comes as part of the club’s strategy to strengthen its squad and ensure a more competitive team in the upcoming season.

The Promise Keepers, who narrowly avoided relegation to the lower league on the last day of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), have urged interested football stars to participate in the screening. The screening is scheduled to take place from July 15 to July 22, 2024, and aims to give the team’s technical crew an opportunity to evaluate and select the best talents.

According to the management of Akwa United FC, the open screening program is designed to identify and select the most skilled players for the club ahead of the new season. This initiative reflects the club’s commitment to improving its performance and ensuring that only the most capable players are chosen to represent the team.

The screening will be held at the Uyo Township Stadium, providing a central and accessible location for all aspiring players. The club has extended an invitation to all interested players, encouraging them to seize this opportunity to showcase their abilities and potentially secure a spot on the team.

Last season, the Promise Keepers did not meet the high expectations set for them in the NPFL. Despite their efforts, they finished their campaign in 16th position, just one place above the relegation zone. This close call has prompted the club to take proactive measures to avoid a similar situation in the future.

The open screening is expected to attract a large number of hopefuls, all eager to demonstrate their skills and earn a place on the team. Akwa United’s technical crew will be closely monitoring the players during the screening process, looking for those who can bring fresh talent and energy to the squad.

By implementing this open field screening, Akwa United aims to build a stronger and more resilient team for the 2024/2025 season. The club is determined to rise above last season’s challenges and achieve better results in the upcoming NPFL campaign.
