Championship side Southampton has officially welcomed Flying Eagles-eligible central defender Zach Awe, signing him to a three-year contract after his long tenure at Arsenal's academy.
Despite Arsenal's offer for an extension, Awe chose to pursue a new path in search of first-team opportunities, and Southampton managed to secure his signature amid competition from other clubs.
While starting his journey with Southampton's U21 squad, Awe's previous experience includes 31 appearances and two goals in Arsenal's Premier League 2.
Although he had trained with Arsenal's first team, he left the club after his contract expired, marking the latest acquisition by Southampton of Nigerian descent following Derrick Abu from Chelsea's youth ranks earlier this summer.
