Regis Le Bris marked a successful debut at home as Sunderland's manager with a commanding 4-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, propelling the Black Cats to second place in the Championship. Dennis Cirkin, Eliezer Mayenda, and Luke O'Nien all scored within the first 25 minutes, setting the tone for an impressive performance.

 

Mayenda added his second goal shortly after the break, ensuring Sunderland's perfect start to the season alongside Burnley and Watford, who are the only other teams to win both of their opening Championship matches. Sheffield Wednesday, who had previously won 4-0 against Plymouth, were unable to replicate their form at the Stadium of Light.

 

Le Bris, who took over in June following a disappointing season for Sunderland, expressed satisfaction with his first home game. The French coach emphasized the talent within his squad and praised their defensive and counter-pressing efforts, signaling a promising start to his tenure.
