Reasons Balogun should reject PL clubs, RB Leipzig, others for AC Milan

Posted : 26 April 2023
Folarin Balogun, a striker owned by Arsenal, has been linked with a permanent exit from his childhood club this summer, as it seems unlikely that he will be guaranteed enough playing time for the next season.

Currently on loan at Stade de Reims in the French Ligue 1, Balogun has been in exceptional form, netting 18 goals and two assists in the league.

Given his impressive performances and reported desire to end his 15-year relationship with Arsenal, several clubs are vying for the signature of the 21-year-old England U21 international of Nigerian descent.

AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Marseille, Everton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among those credited with an interest in him.

The question arises, then: where should he go? Balogun has demonstrated his ability in front of goal with Reims and needs to join a club where he can continue to develop, whose ambitions exceed his former club's, and where playing time is assured.

Among his suitors, AC Milan is the best club that fits the bill, for the following reasons:

1. If Balogun wishes to elevate his game, compete for individual accolades, and win trophies, he should choose AC Milan. The Rossoneri have returned to the upper echelons of European football after several years of mediocrity. They are the current Serie A champions and are in the semi-finals of this year's UEFA Champions League. As a result, Balogun would have an excellent chance of winning trophies if he joins them.

2. Balogun will have the opportunity to play alongside better players at AC Milan than he would with the other clubs vying for his signature. The red half of Milan boasts quality players like Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Brahim Diaz, Sandro Tonali, and Olivier Giroud in their ranks. Playing with an experienced striker like Giroud would assist Balogun in improving his game, while being on the field with Leao, Diaz, and Hernandez would allow him to score more goals.

3. Balogun would also receive ample playing time if he joins the Italian outfit, as can be seen from the club's current striking options. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contract is set to expire in the summer, and Olivier Giroud cannot be trusted to lead the line regularly, having only scored eight league goals this season, while Divock Origi has failed to shine since joining from Liverpool.
