Real Madrid loans Eaglets-eligible right-back to Bayer Leverkusen
Posted : 24 August 2023
Bayer Leverkusen has officially announced the acquisition of Melvin Ukpeigbe, a promising right-back eligible for the Golden Eaglets, from Real Madrid, as revealed on their official website.
Ukpeigbe, who holds both Spain U16 international and Nigerian eligibility through his parents, has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan, initially playing for their U17 squad, and the deal includes an option to purchase.
Starting his journey with Real Madrid's academy at the age of ten, Ukpeigbe's roots trace back to Rayo Vallecano, where he spent two years from 2015 to 2017.
Following the path of former player Dani Carvajal, who transitioned from Bayer Leverkusen to Real Madrid, Ukpeigbe's move signifies an exciting step in his career.
Despite his exclusion from Real Madrid's 2023 International Youth Championship squad due to impending transfer activities, Ukpeigbe's potential is highly regarded.
Guiding Bayer Leverkusen's first team is Xabi Alonso, a former Real Madrid star who achieved significant success during his tenure with the Spanish club.
