Real Madrid took an early lead in the 19th minute when Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos scored with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. The Spanish side doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Brahim Diaz fired in a left-footed kick from a difficult angle, sliding the ball just inside the backline and across the empty goal into the far right side. Chelsea's English striker Noni Madueke responded in the 39th minute with a header from the right side of the six-yard box, but Chelsea could not find an equalizer.
Meanwhile, in Baltimore, AC Milan and Barcelona played to a thrilling 2-2 draw before the Italian side clinched the win with a 4-3 advantage on penalties. AC Milan took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Luka Jovic in the 10th minute, assisted by Christian Pulisic, and a strike from Pulisic himself in the 15th minute from a difficult angle into the top right corner. Barcelona's Polish forward Robert Lewandowski reduced the deficit in the 22nd minute and later scored the equalizer in the 58th minute.
