RC Lens to compete with LOSC Lille for Barcelona-linked striker

Posted : 07 June 2023
Gift Emmanuel Orban, the rising star of KAA Gent, seems poised to make a significant impact in Ligue 1 as two prominent French clubs engage in a fierce competition to secure his signature.

According to reliable sources, Lille and Lens have emerged as the front-runners in the race to acquire the services of the Nigerian striker, as reported by FootMercato.

Both clubs, preparing for European campaigns in the upcoming season, recognize the immense talent possessed by the young player and are eager to add him to their squads.

In a remarkably short period of time since his move from Stabæk Fotball to La Gantoise, Gift Emmanuel Orban has taken the Belgian football scene by storm.

Despite being only 20 years old, his goal-scoring prowess has astounded fans and experts alike.

With an incredible tally of 20 goals in just 22 appearances across all competitions, accompanied by two assists, Orban has established himself as a standout performer.

A particular highlight in his career came in the Europa League Conference, where Orban etched his name in history by scoring a breathtaking hat-trick in a mere three minutes against İstanbul Başakşehir.

Such exceptional displays on the pitch have not gone unnoticed, as even FC Barcelona has reportedly expressed interest in the talented young striker.

However, it is Lille and Lens, two French clubs gearing up for European ventures, who are currently engaged in an intense battle to secure Orban's highly sought-after signature.

Both teams possess formidable attacking options, with Loïs Openda (21 goals) and Jonathan David (24 goals) showcasing their abilities throughout the season.

It is widely anticipated that these sought-after players will make significant moves during the upcoming summer transfer window.

In fact, RB Leipzig has already expressed interest in Loïs Openda, submitting an initial bid of €30 million, which was promptly rejected by Lens. Leipzig is expected to return with an improved offer that may prove difficult for the French club to turn down.

Similarly, Canadian forward Jonathan David is reportedly considering his options and contemplating a potential departure from Lille.

The stage is set for an enthralling transfer showdown between these two prominent clubs from the Hauts-de-France region as they engage in concrete negotiations to entice Orban to join their ranks in Ligue 1.

While no official offer has been presented as of now, discussions are progressing, and the clubs are eagerly vying for the opportunity to secure the services of the talented Nigerian striker.

Gent, who acquired Orban's services for a modest fee of €3.5 million just six months ago, anticipates a substantial transfer fee in the range of €20 million to facilitate his departure.

Given the remarkable performances displayed by Orban and the heightened interest from top clubs, it is understandable that Gent seeks appropriate compensation for their prized asset.

As the transfer saga unfolds, football enthusiasts eagerly await the outcome, curious to witness where the future holds for Gift Emmanuel Orban and which club will ultimately emerge victorious in securing his services for the upcoming season.
