Rangers International FC Coach targets more glory after securing top spot

Posted : 27 March 2024

Rangers International FC coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has disclosed his dream of winning the 2024 Nigeria Premier Football League title this season after his side went top of the table following their 2-1 away win against relegation strugglers, Heartland FC of Owerri.

Rangers boosted their chances of winning an eighth NPFL title when Ilechukwu led his wards to defeat his former employers, Heartland 2-1 in an Oriental derby to dethrone Lobi Stars on the log.

The Flying Antelopes opened scoring in the 37th minute through Ifeanyi Onyekachi’s header off a Kelechi Nweke corner kick before the latter fired in from 25 yards out to double their lead.

Heartland halved the deficit in the 90th minute through Chukwuebuka Ogbonna but it was only a consolation as Ilechukwu’s side extended their unbeaten run in the league to nine games.

“It was a great game between two great sides and I am very glad that we ended the game on the winning side,” Ilechukwu said.

“We worked very hard to earn this victory and I thank God for it and hopefully, we shall keep the momentum to push higher in the league and maintain that fight till we achieve our aim of winning the title.”

They currently lead the table with 48 points from 27 matches.

Rangers got their mojo back in the league after the first stanza and have gone seven matches unbeaten including three away wins and a draw in the process.

Rangers, who last won the NPFL title in 2016 — their seventh in history — will host Sunshine Stars in their next match on Sunday.
