Rangers Int'l FC set to ambush Kano Pillars for maximum points
Posted : 28 October 2023
The lush turf of Awka City Stadium in Anambra state will play host to one of the most interesting club football contests as the 'Flying Antelopes,' Rangers International F.C., welcome the 'Sai Masu Gida,' Kano Pillars F.C., for a Match Day 5 fixture in the Nigeria Premier Football League 2023/2024 season.
Smarting from a deserved 1-1 draw over the weekend in Ilorin, the coach Fidelis Ilechukwu-tutored side will be setting an ambush for the visiting Kano side, led by the immediate past coach of Rangers, Abdul Maikaba, to enhance the realization of the club's season target.
With seven points from four matches already played, scoring six goals and conceding five, coach Ilechukwu and his field generals have been going through various drills to ensure that supporters of the club leave with smiles at the end of the encounter against Kano Pillars, who have amassed six points after four games, scoring twice and conceding the same number of goals.
Coach Ilechukwu, who will be missing the services of midfielders Naziru Auwalu, Kalu Nweke, and Chinemerem Ugwueze due to injuries and bereavement, remains optimistic about the outcome of the encounter.
Ilechukwu, however, does not attach much importance to the game, considering it just another league match.
"The match is like any other game in the league, and we are not attaching anything special to it. We will work hard, get the result we want, with luck on our side. We respect every team and don't underestimate any team or manager. We shall work harder than we did in Ilorin with a positive mindset from the bench and those on the field," he said.
With the return of attacking sensation Kingsley Maduforo to the match day squad, as well as the inclusion of Chinedu Ibe-Agwu and Wilfred Dieke for the Pillars challenge, the coaching crew has plenty of choices. The usual figures of Kazeem Ogunleye, Ifeanyi Ogba, Ejike Ugochukwu, Joel Odoh, and others will be available to defend the colors of the 'Flying Antelopes.'
Former top scorer in the league, Godwin Obaje, expressed his optimism about the upcoming encounter against Kano Pillars, saying, "We are physically, psychologically, and spiritually prepared for this match. I believe it will be challenging. Motivation is high, and against our former coach, I am confident we will come out as winners."
With eleven wins for both teams and five drawn matches in 27 encounters between 2011 and 2023, including the Aiteo Cup win and loss on October 24, 2018, still fresh in the minds of both teams' supporters, fans can expect a high-quality display from both sides.
