Rangers International FC walloped visiting Gombe United FC 4-1 on Saturday in the second match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium (the Cathedral) for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 18.
The win over the Savannah Tigers made it two wins out of two matches at their home ground.
Playing their second game at the Cathedral after beating Shooting Stars 2-0 on the renovated pitch previously, the Flying Antelopes swept aside their guests in style to consolidate their push for a continental ticket.
Two goals from Godwin Obaje in the 20th and 38th minutes – with the latter coming via a spot kick, handed the home side a 2-1 lead after Gombe United had canceled the first strike through Wasiu Alalade.
A sixty-three-minute strike by Nwaodu Chukwudi and Augustine Kelechukwu’s effort in the 87th minute ensured that Rangers won their first two matches in front of their vociferous supporters at the Cathedral.
Despite the victory, the seven-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions remained unmoved on the log as they retained their 9th position with 25 points from 18 matches.
