"Rangers' away point boosts confidence," says delighted Super Eagles striker

Posted : 08 November 2024

Rangers and Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers was thrilled to score in his team’s crucial away draw against Olympiacos. The 29-year-old striker, who ended an eight-game goal drought with a strike against Motherwell in the Scottish Cup semi-final, continued his form with a well-taken goal against the Greek side.

Dessers responded to Ayoub El Kaabi’s opening goal, showcasing his focus and quick decision-making on the field. Reflecting on the goal, he described how the moment seemed instinctive, allowing him to confidently pick his spot in the net.

The Nigerian striker explained he wasn’t overly worried about his recent goal drought, viewing missed chances as part of the job. He emphasized the importance of persistence, saying that his approach was simply to keep pushing forward.

Praising his team’s resilience, Dessers noted that their strong mentality allowed them to hold on against Olympiacos, a respected opponent. The result, he said, was a testament to the collective effort of the entire squad.

Dessers also highlighted the challenging environment at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki but felt that Rangers rose to the occasion. Securing a point was a positive outcome, boosting the team’s confidence for upcoming matches.

With seven points so far in the competition, Dessers believes Rangers are on a promising path toward qualification, despite having high-stakes fixtures ahead. This point, he said, adds to their belief that they can achieve their goals.

Currently positioned 10th in their UEFA Europa League group, Rangers face crucial games ahead, including matches against top English sides Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
