Rúben Amorim has expressed that he doesn't feel the pressure of Manchester United's history as he prepares to take charge of the team. Appointed as Erik ten Hag's successor, the 39-year-old arrived in Manchester on Monday on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Although he and his staff are still waiting for their visas, Amorim is already gearing up for his debut match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
In an interview with United's in-house TV channel MUTV, Amorim shared that he feels calm and relaxed ahead of the challenge. "Maybe because it's not game day," he said, emphasizing that his demeanor may change once match preparations begin. He added that he doesn't feel burdened by the club’s legacy and instead feels a sense of excitement and certainty about his new role.
Amorim's move to Manchester United follows a highly successful tenure at Sporting CP, where he led the club to two Primeira Liga titles. His first victory in 2021 ended a 19-year league title drought for Sporting, showcasing his ability to lead under pressure. He now faces a similar challenge at United, aiming to end the club's 11-year Premier League title drought.
Despite acknowledging the immense history of Manchester United, Amorim expressed great pride in being appointed as the club's head coach. "It’s amazing, it’s a real honor," he said, reflecting on the significance of the opportunity and the responsibility that comes with managing one of the world’s most storied football clubs.
