Following a goalless draw between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby, veteran Turkish pundit Şansal Büyüka highlighted the outstanding performance of Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar. The experienced center-back played a key role in securing a clean sheet for his team.
Assigned the tough responsibility of containing Victor Osimhen, Skriniar delivered a commanding defensive display. The Napoli loanee, known for his goal-scoring ability, found it difficult to break free from Skriniar’s tight marking throughout the game.
Skriniar successfully restricted the former African Footballer of the Year to just one shot, which failed to hit the target. His disciplined positioning and anticipation ensured that Osimhen had minimal influence in the attacking third.
The 30-year-old defender dominated the duels, clearing dangerous balls six times and making one interception. His aggressive defending resulted in a team-high three fouls, further disrupting Osimhen’s rhythm.
In addition to his defensive efforts, Skriniar contributed in possession, completing 35 passes—second only to former Manchester United midfielder Fred among Fenerbahce players. His composure on the ball helped Fenerbahce maintain stability at the back.
With this result, Fenerbahce became the fifth Turkish Super Lig side to prevent Osimhen from scoring or assisting since his move to Galatasaray, following Bodrum FK, Trabzonspor, Gaziantep FK, and Adana Demirspor.
Büyüka, speaking on the Sports Digitale YouTube channel, praised Skriniar’s performance, emphasizing that the defender gave Osimhen no space to operate. He described it as the least effective game Osimhen has played for Galatasaray, further underlining Skriniar’s defensive mastery.
