Paris Saint-Germain's manager, Luis Enrique, openly acknowledged the potential departure of Kylian Mbappé this summer, following the decision to substitute the French captain during Sunday's draw with Rennes.
With PSG trailing 1-0, Mbappé was replaced by Gonçalo Ramos, who later scored the equalizing penalty in the 97th minute. Luis Enrique, when questioned about the substitution, remarked, "Sooner or later, when it happens, we have to get used to playing without Kylian. When I want to play him, I will, when I don't, I won't."
Reports suggest Mbappé has communicated his intention to leave PSG when his contract concludes this summer, engaging in discussions with Real Madrid, who express optimism in securing the striker. This marks the first instance of the manager addressing the links between Mbappé and a potential exit from the Ligue 1 club where he has been a pivotal figure for the past six years.
During a news conference on February 16, Luis Enrique had refrained from commenting on the matter, stating, "I am going to try to bring this topic to an end. I don't have any comments to make." The manager emphasized that until both parties involved make public statements, he would reserve his opinion on the situation. Mbappé's prolific season, contributing 21 goals in 21 Ligue 1 appearances and four goals in seven Champions League games, adds further weight to the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Looking ahead, PSG faces Monaco on Friday and then a crucial second leg in the Champions League round-of-16 tie against Real Sociedad on March 5, holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg. The looming possibility of playing without Mbappé casts a shadow over the team as they navigate key fixtures in both domestic and European competitions.
