PSG contemplates luring Real Madrid players in response to Mbappé Saga

Posted : 12 September 2023
The owner of Paris Saint-Germain remains displeased with the Kylian Mbappé situation and, in collaboration with coach Luis Enrique, has devised a wishlist of Real Madrid players. Their aim is to entice these players to join PSG by offering substantial wages.

While Kylian Mbappé ultimately stayed at PSG this summer, it's widely believed that this will be his final season with the club, and Real Madrid is once again the frontrunner to sign him next year. Real Madrid has been pursuing the talented striker for several years, and this saga has been well-documented. Spain now suggests that PSG is plotting a form of "revenge."

Reportedly, Nasser Al Khelaifi, the owner of Paris Saint-Germain, is compiling a list of Real Madrid players, in consultation with coach Luis Enrique, with the intention of trying to persuade them to move to Paris. While these players could indeed strengthen PSG, the creation of this list is also a strategic move to give Real Madrid a taste of their own medicine for pursuing their star player.

At the top of this list are Vinicius and Rodrigo. PSG acknowledges that securing both of them would be exceedingly difficult, especially considering Vinicius's prominent role at Real Madrid, so they are focusing on Rodrigo as a more realistic option. Following these two Brazilians, three more players are on the radar: Federico Valverde, who Luis Enrique holds in high regard, and the two French talents, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

However, PSG faces a significant challenge in that each of these players is under contract with release clauses set at a high value. Negotiating with Real Madrid is necessary, but the strained relationship between the clubs complicates matters. Al-Khelaifi hopes to avoid this route if possible.

Officially, clubs are not allowed to negotiate with players who are under contract, unless the contract is near its expiration. In practice, this rule is often disregarded. Therefore, PSG is contemplating reaching out to the players' representatives to convey the club's willingness to substantially increase their salaries. By doing so, they hope to persuade the players to request a transfer from Real Madrid.
